Run for School Board Trainings

MEJC in partnership with Great Lakes Political Academy is hosting a series of trainings to support school board candidates by providing the nuts and bolts of how to run a campaign AND what it will take once a candidate is on a school board. We encourage candidates to participate in all four training parts however we understand that can be challenging for some. Below is more information regarding our four part training series as well as registration links.

Run for School Board Training Part 1: Intro to Healthy and Healing Schools (1 hour)

  • Key issues facing our schools
    • Funding for schools, budgeting
    • Mental Health
    • Curriculum 
  • What’s the vision for our schools
  • What are the things school boards have control/power over
  • Who are the Opposition that don’t hold our values

Run for School Board Training Part 2: Nuts and Bolts of Filing and Running for School Board with GLPA-LEAD (2 hours)

  • Lead by Great Lake Political Academy
  • Raising money for your campaign
  • Building personal fundraising list/volunteer base
  • GOTV/Voter Contact
  • Crafting your personal narrative
  • How to talk about key issues in our schools
  • Building a coalition of supporters

Run for School Board Training Part 3: School Finance and Budgeting (one hour)

  • Working with labor unions
  • How school funding and budgeting works

Run for School Board Training Part 4: Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (two hours)

  • How to serve with an inclusive mindset
  • Equity backlash & critical race theory
  • Protecting LGBTQ+ youth

Run for School Board Training Dates

Unless noted the trainings will be via zoom. We will work to ensure later in 2022, when it is safe to do so, to host hybrid in person/virtual trainings where childcare will be available.
