How would you engage and include parents, caregivers, community members and students in decision-making in your district around things like curriculum, budgeting and district policy?

We currently provide community members with this information in a number of ways. CPS monthly board meetings that are also live streamed on YouTube, superintendent celebration reports on the district website and conducting parent and student surveys to gain useful data for critical decision making.

What are your thoughts on school discipline and the way it is exercised in your school district? What are your thoughts on restorative practices?

I am proud to say that our current restorative practices provide students with many options in achieving academic success and Comstock Public Schools and educational opportunities are in alignment with best practices throughout the country.

What are your thoughts on how to improve student mental health

As our current budget and access to mental healthcare workers will allow we are increasing staff to address this critical issue in our district.

What are your thoughts on ways to improve Black student achievement in your district and in Michigan schools overall?

We support all equity initiatives for black and brown student achievement this is a challenging area for all schools in Michigan and throughout the United States. I feel we must first address the root cause of the lack of ALL student achievement not just those of

What are your thoughts on how to ensure that all students and their families, regardless of race, gender identity, sexuality, disability, religion, income status, etc., feel safe and included in your district?

We offer continuous training and in services to administrator, educators and staff. On ways to secure and increase physical and emotional safety. Our superintendent, board and staff stand ready to address any and all issues .

What are your thoughts on how to recruit and retain staff, particularly staff of color, in your district with regard to pay, benefits, and working conditions?

I feel it is important to provide good wages and benefits for quality staff and administrators. I feel it is also important to offer a gateway for employees that show the key attributes of good educators and grow your own teachers and professionals by offering development initiatives.
