I have twelve years experience in Early Childhood Education and currently a Program Supervisor at Macomb Community Action Head Start. I’m a Macomb County native, currently residing in Mount Clemens. I earned my undergraduate degree in Early Childhood Education and master’s in Educational Leadership. I’m a mother of three and enjoys traveling, ballroom dancing, and spending time with my family.

How would you engage and include parents, caregivers, community members and students in decision-making in your district around things like curriculum, budgeting and district policy?

Facilitating community conversations, programs and events are a few ways how I aim to engage parents, caregivers, students, and community members in the decision-making process.

What are your thoughts on school discipline and the way it is exercised in your school district? What are your thoughts on restorative practices?

I advocate for a proactive and preventative approach to school discipline, focusing on restorative practices prioritizing building and strengthening relationships among staff, students, and families. This creates a positive and safe school environment.

What are your thoughts on how to improve student mental health

Mount Clemens School District's implementation of Conscious Discipline enables educators to better respond to the students. Focusing on the student's social-emotional development and providing a trauma-informed approach.

What are your thoughts on ways to improve Black student achievement in your district and in Michigan schools overall?

To improve black student achievement, it is essential to meet students and families where they are by establishing partnerships and implementing a family engagement plan. Supporting black teachers through recruitment and retention, ensuring representation in the curriculum to promote diversity, and equipping school administration and staff to foster a climate of racial justice are key steps towards this goal.

What are your thoughts on how to ensure that all students and their families, regardless of race, gender identity, sexuality, disability, religion, income status, etc., feel safe and included in your district?

Mount Clemens Community School District's mission is to teach ALL students so that they achieve beyond expectations and meet the challenges of a diverse and rapidly changing world.
This can be obtained by providing a safe, equitable, and inclusive learning environment. Acknowledging and welcoming the many ways people are different, ensuring fair and just treatment to all people, and supporting and respecting all of the diverse individuals and groups.

What are your thoughts on how to recruit and retain staff, particularly staff of color, in your district with regard to pay, benefits, and working conditions?

Staff Recruitment and retention are critical to the success of schools. Creating a positive school culture, streamlining and being intentional with staff recruitment, offering competitive compensation and benefits, continuous professional development, and knowing the importance of work-life balance.
