How would you engage and include parents, caregivers, community members and students in decision-making in your district around things like curriculum, budgeting and district policy?

Effective communication is key. I will keep working towards transparent and regular updates to the community, staff, and students, ensuring their voices are heard and their feedback is valued. Building strong communication channels will foster trust and collaboration across the district.

What are your thoughts on school discipline and the way it is exercised in your school district? What are your thoughts on restorative practices?

What are your thoughts on how to improve student mental health

Student mental health is essential. I have and will further advocate for expanded mental health services, including counselors and behavioral specialists, to support students’ emotional well-being. Ensuring access to these resources will help students thrive academically and socially.

What are your thoughts on ways to improve Black student achievement in your district and in Michigan schools overall?

What are your thoughts on how to ensure that all students and their families, regardless of race, gender identity, sexuality, disability, religion, income status, etc., feel safe and included in your district?

Feeling safe is required in order to learn. That is just how our brains work. We must ensure all students receive equitable opportunities regardless of background, race, gender identity, sexuality, disability, religion, income status, etc. One actionable step is to establish a DE&I committee to gather data and community feedback, helping us tailor our programs to support diverse needs and foster inclusivity.

What are your thoughts on how to recruit and retain staff, particularly staff of color, in your district with regard to pay, benefits, and working conditions?
