How would you engage and include parents, caregivers, community members and students in decision-making in your district around things like curriculum, budgeting and district policy?
I want to speak with parents at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. I want to know how the school board can make effective changes.
What are your thoughts on school discipline and the way it is exercised in your school district? What are your thoughts on restorative practices?
School discipline should be consistent across the board. School board members should make it a priority to follow the rule of law. I agree with restorative practices as long as social workers, administrators, and teachers are discipline and consistent.
What are your thoughts on how to improve student mental health
To improve student mental health is a challenge for all schools. Personally, I would recommend training for all employees to be able to notice signs of poor mental health in students.
What are your thoughts on ways to improve Black student achievement in your district and in Michigan schools overall?
Improving Black student achievement must start at the lower levels, by the time a student goes to high school it's literally too late. Elementary school curriculum must focus on reading and reading comprehension.
Also, put a solid cell phone usage plan together.
What are your thoughts on how to ensure that all students and their families, regardless of race, gender identity, sexuality, disability, religion, income status, etc., feel safe and included in your district?
First, make sure the school building has the latest technology to assist personnel in keeping our children secure. Secondly, put men and women who are capable of doing the job in our security positions. Lastly, install medal detectors in the building.
What are your thoughts on how to recruit and retain staff, particularly staff of color, in your district with regard to pay, benefits, and working conditions?
Put together a competitive benefits package with good pay. Improve working conditions, LISTEN to your staff.
